Derek Kilmer Endorsed by Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs
State Senator Derek Kilmer, 6th congressional district candidate, has been officially endorsed by the Washington Council of Police and Sheriffs (WACOPS). WACOPS is the largest and oldest law enforcement association in Washington state, representing approximately 4,500 commissioned police officers and sheriff deputies.
“The Washington Council of Police Officers and Sheriffs is proud to endorse State Senator Derek Kilmer to succeed Representative Norm Dicks as the Congressman of Washington’s 6th Congressional District,” said Jamie Daniels, Executive Director of WACOPS. “Senator Kilmer is a legislator with a proven record of achieving bipartisan solutions that protect the public’s safety and safeguard the welfare of law enforcement officers and their families. We believe he will make a great congressman.”
“It’s a great honor to be endorsed by the Washington Council of Police Officers and Sheriffs, which represents the tireless professionals who keep our communities safe,” said Senator Kilmer. “Law enforcement officers put their lives on the line for the greater good, and we owe it to them to ensure that they can perform their public service with the best training and equipment available, as well as the peace of mind that they and their families are adequately provided for both in retirement and in case of a tragedy in the line of duty.”
Throughout his time in the legislature, Kilmer has maintained a strong relationship with local law enforcement officials and been a tireless advocate for their issues. Due to his strong advocacy, Kilmer has been endorsed in his run for congress by law enforcement groups and officials from throughout the 6th congressional district and was recognized in past years as WACOPS “Legislator of the Year.” WACOPS joins the Pierce County Deputy Sheriffs Independent Guild, Jefferson County Sheriff Anthony Hernandez, Kitsap County Sheriff Steve Boyer, Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist, Jefferson County Prosecutor Scott Rosekrans, Kitsap County Prosecutor Russ Hauge, and Mitch Barker, former chief of police for Gig Harbor in endorsing Kilmer. Kilmer has now been endorsed by over 700 civic and community leaders and organizations from throughout the district.
